Thank God our cats are tolerant of Liz's lovin'.

"I said go sleep!"

I received the sweetest gift in the mail from my friend Jessica today! Jess is one of the most intelligent, caring, and generous people I've ever met... I just love her. :)
I love green tea... there are so many health benefits, including increasing your metabolism. And this book... "Hello Cupcake" is SOOOOOOOO amazing! Stay tuned for some incredible confections courtesy of yours truly, with a little help from my sweet new book! :)
And if this wasn't already way too much, she also was kind enough to send some great educational magazines for the kids,
and a book on cd for me, too! Thanks so much, Jessica! I love you! :)

Liz hasn't been out much this winter, so today Marc took her outside for some fun in the snow.
They made snow castles and even helped Logan & Jacks build a fort! Miss Liz was nothing but giggles and grins... so happy for the fresh air.
All was good and grand as I stood in the garage clicking away... until they started to plot against me!

I received a really nice surprise in the mail today... a birthday gift from my sister- and brother-in-law and my sweet nephew! Kelley knows how much I love to read and she's stocked me up for LIFE! :)
Also included was the sweetest message, where each one had written a few things they love about "Aunt Beth". It was so thoughtful and is something I will treasure always.
There were also some homemade bookmarks with some very inspiring quotes on them... fitting, as you all know how I feel about quotes! :) Thank you so much, Kelley, Kyle, and Parker... what a great gift! :)
"Lord! when you sell a man a book you don't sell just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue - you sell him a whole new life. Love and friendship and humour and ships at sea by night - there's all heaven and earth in a book, a real book." ~Christopher Morley
AND...not only that... but Marc has been plugging away at finishing the basement,
which will be where my studio setup ends up.
He's really coming along with it and I can't wait to have a space down there!
"The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box." ~Henri Cartier Bresson
I had been scouring the internet for a vintage baby scale, but could only find them for $90 - $150! Yikes! I ended up scoring this one
on ebay for a fraction of the cost and am so excited to use it! Therefore, the next person to bring in their newborn (one month or less) gets a FREE session... complete with an 8x10 spiral-bound proof book!
I prefer to photograph newborns in the first two weeks of their life, and moms... if you prefer, I can come to you.
This is just one of my many unique props... I have hats, angel wings, wraps, and much more!

Normally I go after the cats with a newspaper if they attempt to get on the table, but when I saw this "teamwork" - Scooter diverting Liz's attention while Chloe nabs the goods - I had to get a quick shot before I chased the little thief away.
But little kitty is quite stealth and was back on her mission in no time!

I bought a 3 lb. tub of sugar cookie dough from the Girl Scouts, (Yes... a little lazy, don't you think? Now we have to make our own cookies? Hmpf!) so today I rolled out the dough and let the kids go to town. I didn't take any photos during the dough-cutting process, because frankly... it was a MESS! :) So here are a few of my little cookie decorators.

My Aunt Vicki, Seamstress Extraordinaire, recently sent me a bunch of tutus and pettis for Liz and for use as photo props. I decided on a whim today to do a little impromptu shoot with Liz for Valentines.
I threw my backdrop up, but I didn't have time to do piggy tails and set up lighting, so I just snapped away using mostly ambient light. These aren't perfect by any means (wish I'd taken the time to set up lighting!), but they're cute nonetheless!
Here's my little Valentine...

If you haven't noticed, I pretty don't really ever make anything "normal" for the kids' classroom parties. I want the kids to have a good time and feel special, and for my boys to know I care enough to send something cool. I'd like them to remember someday, that mom did these little things.
I made chocolate-dipped strawberries for Logan's class tonight. Super easy... just melt semi-sweet chocolate baking squares, dip, and let dry on wax paper. The strawberries for Logan's class were placed on mini cupcake liners on a cookie sheet.

As I mentioned before, my Grandpa had a military service at his funeral. After the 7-gun salute, the empty shells were collected for the grandkids and/or great-grandkids to keep in memory of grandpa. I didn't collect any that day, but my sister Angie ended up mailing three shells to me - one each for Logan, Jackson, and Elizabeth. I think they'll appreciate this when they're a bit older.
This photo is of my Grandma... the love of Grandpa's life for over 63 years. He carried a smaller version of this photo of 18-year-old Grandma in his wallet since the day she gave it to him. These two had what people long for. It is truly beautiful.
"She glances at the photo, and the pilot light of memory flickers in her eyes." ~Frank Deford
