Jackson is SIX! (Project 365, Day 10; 1-10-09)

At 2:33 this morning, my baby boy was officially six

years old. Wow... time flies.

When I was pregnant with Jackson,

Photobucket

we had a scare and had to undergo genetic counseling and a great deal of ultrasound screening. There was a chance he could have had Downs Syndrome or Trisomy 18. It was a very stressful time, but we were so glad to have our little man join us, healthy as can be, that day. He came into the world fiercely, not even waiting for the OB to arrive to deliver him.

We decided to get Jacks a puppet theater

this year because he's had this 'thing' about making puppets out of brown paper lunch sacks. He must have about 20 of them.

We also made sure to get him some of his favorite 'junk food' as a special treat: Lorna Doone shortbread cookies, Brownie bites, Blue Kool-Aid, and mini oreos.

First thing in the morning, Jacks opened all of his gifts

and then ate his favorite breakfast..."pan-a-cakes".

We all cleaned up and got dressed, and I made sure that mom and dad had a picture with the birthday boy before we headed out. I try to do this on each child's birthday so that they'll have at least one photo of them alone with me and Marc for each year of their life.

Did I mention that Jackson doesn't like kisses? Not even from his own mama?

We typically have a party for birthdays, but this year we decided to spend the day enjoying our little family and making everything super special for Jacks.

And oh, we had special plans, we did! Everyone was excited and raring to go!

First stop, Toys R Us. Everyone has had Christmas $$ burning a hole in their pocket, and TRU is one of Jacks' favorite places on Earth.

By the way, if you go to TRU on your child's birthday, they'll give you a balloon, a little bag of good stuff (coloring book, crayons, poster, etc), and a free meal at a local restaurant!

We did a little shopping...

then went to eat at our favorite Muskegon restaurant, the Texas Roadhouse. The kids tried out the saddle

and when we told the waitress it was Jackson's birthday, she hauled the saddle over to our table for him then quite loudly announced to the entire restaurant that it was his birthday. All of the patrons joined is in giving him a "Big Texas Roadhouse 'YEEEEE-HAW!!!!'" I don't think he was too traumatized by this

Photobucket

but I guess we'll see in a few years if he developes a fear of steak houses.

We played at Chuck E Cheese for awhile, did some more shopping, and headed back to Ludington.

We grabbed a bite to eat, then headed over to the Best Western Splash Park Inn to stay in the family suite we'd reserved.

The boys enjoyed the pool

and even more so, the water slide.

They even made some new friends... two brothers named... get this... Logan and Jackson! Ha! I got some truly fabulous action shots of my Logan going down the water slide with his new friend Logan, but I'll just post this one that doesn't show the little cutie's face, as I did not ask permission from his parents to post those here.

Liz wasn't so much into the swimming. She preferred staying on the sidelines eating Cheetos.

We went back to the room and let the kids roam wild...

Photobucket

okay... I guess that was a meager representation of 'wild'.

Then sir Jackson

Photobucket

was presented with his cake

Photobucket

and made the day official by blowing out his six candles.

Disclaimer: I just realized this is the second post I've posted that shows my kids devouring junk food... just so you know, this is reserved for really special occasions. I'm actually kind of a veggie pusher, so don't get the wrong idea. :)

Looks like a great birthday!! I'm sure the kids loved the pool, what a nice treat in the middle of a Michigan winter.
